Internship at IBC SOLAR AG

Name: Alexander Kusch
Division: EPC
Year: 2023
Field of Study: Energy technology and renewable energies
University: Coburg University of Applied Sciences and Arts
Semester: 4

My name is Alexander Kusch and I am studying Energy Technology and Renewable Energies at Coburg University of Applied Sciences. In the fourth semester I completed my compulsory internship of 5 months at IBC SOLAR AG in the EPC department and was able to gain valuable experience in the field of solar park planning and realisation. During the entry phase in the design team, I had the opportunity to familiarise myself with the ‘AutoCAD’ and ‘Helios3D’ programmes and was shown how to design a solar park in combination with these tools, internal specifications and objectives. I used this knowledge to plan a large number of ground-mounted systems, which were up to 80 MW in size.

Simulating the yield for a planning variant is helpful to get a feel for the economic viability of a solar plant. Creating such yield forecasts with the ‘PV-Syst’ programme and comparing them with each other was also part of the design process, which I was allowed to take part in.

The planning tasks during my internship also included a two-month project bundle with 16 Polish solar parks that were to be prepared for construction. Working closely with the design experts and electrical engineers, I was able to shape and help shape the entire process from the design to the electrical layout with technical optimisation.

In addition to my planning tasks, I also supported the project managers during acceptance tests and adjustments on site. This included checking solar parks for construction defects, recording them and then rectifying them in cooperation with the construction partners. The creation and provision of labelling and plans was also part of my tasks.

Finally, I would like to express my sincere thanks for the wonderful time, the instructive experiences and the constant attentive support. I am delighted to have spent my practical semester here.

Sunny greetings

Alexander Kusch
