Internship at IBC SOLAR AG

Name: Frank Seidenath
Division: EPC
Year: 2023 / 24
Field of Study: Climate-neutral energy systems
University: University Weihenstephan-Triesdorf
Semester: 5

My name is Frank Seidenath and I am studying Climate Neutral Energy Systems in the 5th semester at Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences. As I was already particularly interested in the subject of photovoltaics during previous semesters, I decided to complete my practical semester at IBC SOLAR in Bad Staffelstein.

The duration of my internship was 24 weeks. I worked in the EPC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction) department in the design team. My main task here was to create the preliminary designs for new open space projects. This gave me a detailed insight into the special features and challenges that need to be considered when creating a PV park and I learnt how to use various software solutions (AutoCAD CIVIL 3D, HELIOS 3D, PVsyst).

However, the internship didn't just take place in the office. Occasionally, I was able to accompany one of the project managers to a construction site and thus supplement the knowledge I had acquired with practical experience. I particularly remember the installation of a transformer station at the Nordhalben PV park. The low-loader delivering the station got stuck in the mud. This tricky situation could only be solved with the help of two local farmers and their tractors.

I felt part of the team at IBC SOLAR right from the start and was warmly welcomed by everyone. The internship was varied and I learnt a lot. I can therefore warmly recommend an internship at IBC SOLAR to anyone who wants to get to know the PV industry.

Sunny greetings

Frank Seidenath
