Internship at IBC SOLAR AG

Name: Robin Graessner
Division: Projects Germany
Year: 2022
Field of Study: Mechanical engineering (energy technology)
University: RWTH Aachen University
Semester: 7

My name is Robin Graessner and I am studying mechanical engineering at RWTH Aachen University, specialising in energy technology. During my internship at IBC SOLAR, I was able to gain valuable experience in the field of planning and the subsequent realisation of ground-mounted PV systems.

The area of planning included a wide variety of work with AutoCAD, which was required in the course of planning a project. In combination with Helios 3D and AutoCAD Civil, I was able to carry out my own area allocations independently and familiarise myself with the various factors influencing the allocation. Building on this, I simulated the yield with the PVSyst software so that the different allocations could ultimately be compared in terms of economic efficiency and energy yield. I also determined the required cable lengths based on the planning and wiring of the system.

During realisation, I supported the project managers on various construction sites and was able to improve my practical knowledge enormously. My tasks included checking the rectification of defects and carrying out other pending work on the systems. For example, voltage transformers with a higher accuracy class had to be installed as part of a system expansion. The insights I gained there helped me to better transfer theoretical relationships to reality. The commissioning of the PV systems, which I was able to attend on site, was also particularly exciting.

Finally, I would like to thank you for a very instructive and enjoyable time at IBC SOLAR. I would especially like to thank all my colleagues who always took the time to answer my questions. An internship at IBC SOLAR offers the opportunity to gain a deep insight into the entire planning and realisation of ground-mounted PV systems. I was involved in the processes at an early stage and given responsibility.

Many thanks for the great insights!

Sunny greetings

Robin Graessner
